Democrats Need To Take Their Own Advice!
Associated Press writer, Liz Sodoti writes, “An influential House Democrat who voted for the Iraq war called Thursday for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops, another sign of growing unease in Congress about the conflict.”1 According to this article, Rep. John Murtha D-PA stated, “It is time for a change in direction. Our military is suffering, the future of our country is at risk. We cannot continue on the present course. It is evident that continued military action in Iraq is not in the best interests of the United States of America, the Iraqi people or the Persian Gulf region.”2 Okay, so our country is at risk. If that is so, why would we want to pull out of Iraq immediately? What message is that going to send to terrorists? If terrorists stick it out long enough, America will soon cower?
Withdrawal would have been preferable for many of these Democrats’ fathers, but it is not going to work in the war on terror. Our men and women are still doing something these people are too cowardice to do: fight for our liberty.
If our men were actually allowed to win this war, maybe withdrawing would be okay. However, every time one of our troops does as much as interrogates a terrorist suspect, everyone from Barbara Boxer to the ACLU is down their throats saying they violated a terrorist's civil rights.
Your civil rights are violated when some terrorist jerk blows up your buildings! Your civil rights are violated when you are beheaded for not believing in the “religion of peace!”
I guess Murtha had his feelings hurt when Bush criticized Democrats on Veterans’ Day. "I resent the fact, on Veterans Day, he criticized Democrats for criticizing them,” Murtha said.3
Well, Murtha, you aren’t criticizing Bush. You are criticizing the effort to keep our people safe. By the way, the only reason why our men are having to die now to keep our nation safe is because when your party had the power to make a difference, Osama bin Laden just wasn’t that important to your President. I guess covering up his stains, both literal and figuratively, was more important than bringing down the leader of al’Qaida.4 Why is it that these same people did not mind when our troops fought and died in wars that did not even involve American security, but when an evil Republican does as much as send troops to defend America, they demand the troops get pulled out? God forbid these men and women are allowed to win the war. That might seem too aggressive.
When all is said and done and this war is won, I hope the history books clearly show how the Democrats had nothing to do with how it was won. I do hope the history books show that the Democrats did everything in their power, minus actual sabotage, to prevent that from happening.
